tc_aug_2017_025

Did you know that reading at grade-level in third grade is actually a crucial milestone?  It's in third grade that students transition from reading to read into reading to learn other academic topics as well.  It's crucial, and we have some excellent suggestions to fill your child's summer afternoons and ensure that they are avoiding the "Summer Slide."

  • Ranger in Time by Kate Messner: This series follows a search-and-rescue time-travelling golden retriever who helps his human friends on all manner of adventures.
  • The Imagination Station (Adventures in Odyssey) by Marianne Hering et al. Created by the same brilliant minds that make Adventures in Odyssey audio series, this book series brings kids into a different world-a world of the past. Each journey teaches the adventurers a Biblically-based lesson to take with them.
  • Geronimo Stilton by Geronimo Stilton: This series is a great choice for struggling readers; it has lots of text features that support reading.  They also have an accompanying website where kids can play games with the characters from the book.
